Scope

Under the direction of the Academic Senate President and the Committee of the Whole, the committee addresses issues relevant to the professional and academic responsibilities of the adjunct faculty.

Meetings

Meetings are held monthly to the extent allowed by the committee members' ability to be on campus. The exact time and date is determined dynamically, again according to the committee memebrs' ability to be present on campus in order to have quorum in-person according to the requirements dictated by the Brown Act. An invitation along with an agenda is sent to all part-time faculty early in the week of the meeting, or the previous week.

Standing Rules

Standing Rules of the Adjunct Committe was formally adopted on March 6, 2026 to codify the already established practice of open-access meetings including online participation, delegated voting model, and transparency and accountability.

Academic Senate

The SMC's Academic Senate is an organization whose primary function is to make recommendations to the administration of the college and to the governing board with respect to academic and professional matters.

Faculty Association

The Santa Monica College Faculty Association is the union and advocacy group for all SMC faculty. Contact the FA for any questions about the contract, Associate Faculty status, unemployment, etc.
