Welcome to the Election & Rules Committee.

Scope

Under the direction of the Academic Senate President and the Committee of the Whole, the committee conducts elections in accordance with the bylaws and academic regulations and recommends changes as needed in the Academic Senate constitution and bylaws. The committee shall not endorse or campaign for candidates and ensures that Senate resources are not used for such purposes.

Functions

  1. Conduct elections for Academic Senate and Curriculum committee representation during the Spring semester.

  2. Ensure compliance with and integrity of the process set forth in the Academic Senate by-laws.  

  3. In conjunction with the Dean of Academic Affairs, oversees compliance with the Department Chair election process. May occur in Fall or Spring depending on Chair terms and special elections. 
  4. Reviews the Academic Senate Constitution and By-Laws annually and when appropriate, brings committee recommendations to the Academic Senate.

  5. Considers other matters deemed as appropriate by the Academic Senate. (Revised March 14, 2006; 47-0)

Academic Senate Executive Officers

Academic Senators 

11 faculty members from the Adjunct Faculty pool are selected each semester along with full-time faculty members from selected elected areas as determined by term guidelines of the Senate Bylaws. Academic Senate representatives serve for 3 years and at-large representations serve for a 1-year term.

Curriculum Committee Representatives

The term of approximately one-third of the elected Curriculum representatives is scheduled to end each spring semester. Elections will be held each spring to select representatives to serve the next term. The new term will be a three year term starting at the beginning of the subsequent fall semester. Faculty representatives will be from the following Departments: Business (1), English (1), Earth Science/Life Science/Physical Science (2), ESL/Modern Languages & Culture (1), Cosmetology/Fashion/Photography (1), Math (1), History/Philosophy/Social Sciences (1), CSIS (1), Design Technology (1), Communications & Media (1), Art/Dance/Music/Theater Arts (1), Kinesiology/Health Sciences (1), Counseling (1). Positions of Chair, Articulation Officer, At-large member and Librarian are appointed by the Senate President.
