"Preboarding" refers to the period of time between the new hire accepting the offer of employment and their first day of active employment with the District. This component of the Onboarding process will include involvement of the Office of Human Resources and the new hire's immediate Supervisor.
Office of Human Resources
The Office of Human Resources Operations Team welcomes the new hire and schedules time to complete and collect the necessary pre-employment paperwork. These meetings will also provide the new hire with an overview of their District paid and voluntary benefits available to them and their qualifying dependents.
Immediate Supervisor
The immediate Supervisor welcomes the new hire and takes all necessary steps to prepare for their arrival. This is the time to start building rapport with your new team member. Call, congratulate and answer any questions they may have. Here are a few common questions you may be asked:
- How do I reach you if there is a challenge prior to my arrival?
- What should I bring with me?
- Is there a dress code?
- Where should I park?
- Who should I check in with when I arrive?
- What do most people do for lunch?
Part of the Managers' Toolkit includes a New Hire Checklist. This Checklist covers important items such as requesting network systems access, setting up a work station, assigning an email address, ordering keys and much more! Be sure to refer to this resource so that you can prepare in a timely manner and make your employee feel welcome on their first day!
