Day 1 is focused on welcoming your new employee and creating a comfortable and inclusive environment through engagement with management and introductions to departmental colleagues. The goal of Day 1 is to provide your new employee with an overview of basic operations and connecting them with their department and colleagues.
During Week 1, you will ensure that your new employee understands what is expected of them on a daily basis and provide opportunities for regular check-ins. Meet one-on-one to review job duties and responsibilities, work assignments and expectations. Review and clarify key department policies and procedures and provide a job specific training plan and schedule (see the New Assignment Training Plan below). Be sure to email a copy of the completed Training Plan to profdevelopment @smc.edu.
Be sure to share your Departmental New Hire Guidebook. It will help familiarize your new team member with the mission, vision and values of your department, as well as with departmental policies, practices. dates, forms, key personnel and much more.
Don't forget to introduce your new hire to their Departmental Buddy. The Buddy is a valuable resource who can offer insights into departmental culture, help foster relationships within the organization, while at the same time helping new employees feel welcome and supported.
