Virtual Computer Lab

The SMC Virtual Computer Lab is a service that lets SMC students in certain classes access real SMC specialized computer labs over the Internet. You must be enrolled in an appropriate class for the current semester in progress. You cannot log on before the semester starts or after it ends.

Installing required app to use the Virtual Computer Lab

For students enrolled in the following classes:  CS, CIS, Fashion, GIS, and Accounting.

Download Microsoft Remote Desktop App for your operating system to access Azure Virtual Desktop:

All other classes including classes at CMD campus and modern language:

Access to the Virtual Computer Lab is by using software called Citrix Workspace.

Download and install Citrix Workspace for your operating system:

Start Citrix Workspace on your device.

It may take a minute to start.

Use the lab "desktop" or "app" that your instructor tells you to.

If you don't see what you need, click on the Settings icon (it looks like a wheel or gear) and select "Refresh Apps".

Special Instructions for Modern Language Classes

SANSSpace (used in previous years) has been replaced with a Modern Language Laboratory login that starts a timer and leads to a menu of language learning software. The menu is controlled by a computer program called ASuite.

  1. Log in to Citrix WorkSpace.
  2. Navigate to the “Apps” tab at the top.
  3. Follow the instructions given by your instructor.
  4. If you have questions about lab credit, the ASuite menu, or any language software, contact the Modern Language Laboratory support.

Which "desktop" is for what class subject?

You only have access to the "desktops" or "apps" appropriate for your class. If you have more than one class that uses the Virtual Computer Lab, here are the names of the desktops available:
