Immigrants Are Welcome Here: Supporting Our Undocu+ Students Through Uncertain Times Presenters: Dream Resource Center Advisory Members: Marisol Moreno, Sara Nieves-Lucas, Jessie Garcia In an era of heightened immigration policy shifts and increased fear, our undocumented, mixed-status, and immigrant students face intense challenges that impact their ability to thrive academically and personally. This workshop is designed for all instructional and counseling faculty to gain a deeper understanding of the lived realities and anxieties stemming from recent federal immigration policies and raids. We'll explore practical, equity-centered tools and strategies to create inclusive classroom and counseling environments. By fostering supportive spaces, faculty can directly contribute to student retention, academic success, and overall well-being, empowering our students to persist despite external pressures. |

2025-2028 - Student Equity Plan Progress Presenters: Llanet Martin, Silvana Carrion-Palomares This session will provide an overview of the draft 2025–2028 Student Equity Plan. As we prepare to socialize the plan and move it through the campus approval process in Fall 2025, this presentation offers an early opportunity to build campuswide awareness and gather feedback. Slingshot- All of Your Books. None of the Hassle. Presenters: Duncan Lyle, Sam Wells, Mitch Heskel, Elease Juarez This is a new program out of the SMC Bookstore. All books and materials required by professors will be ready for students 1 week before the first day of class each semester. Students will be able to pay by using their book vouchers or cash/check/credit card. All books and materials for each course will be bundled and sold for only $32.00 per class unit (3 unit class = $96.00). |

The Mentor Mindset: "10-25, The Science of Motivating Young People," by David Yaeger Yaeger Presenter: Marlea Welton We often think of each generation we teach as being different in applying the correct attitude to engage students 100% in our classrooms. This recent book which came out last year is based on new cognitive research and decades of surveys, teaching, administration and observation by David Yaeger. It provides a remarkable research study which is extremely successful in crafting our teaching styles. |

When Does a Job Change become a Classification Issue? Presenter: Carol Long, Director of the Personnel Commission; Amy Gurjian, Classification and Compensation Manager Current and upcoming fiscal challenges are raising concerns from classified staff about potential changes to their job. When are changes in job duties considered significant enough to warrant classification changes, and potentially changes in salary? Personnel Commission staff will provide an overview of basic classification principles, and address the impact of both temporary and permanent job changes. |

This workshop addresses a wide range of AR's including grade notations, accommodations, and student disciplinary matters. There was also be discussion of policies and procedures regarding enrollment, financial aid, student petitions, and any other related faculty matters. Enhance your skills and knowledge regarding these matters to better support students.

Title: The Equity-Minded Syllabus Presenters: Kat Trần Olvey, Briana Brickley and Steph Anderson from the Academic Senate Equity and Diversity Committee. Description: In this workshop, they explored how to transform your syllabus into a tool that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). They reviewed DEI fundamentals and the importance of equity-minded approaches, while offering practical strategies for making your syllabus more inclusive. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and a panel Q&A, participants gain a deeper understanding of how your syllabus can support student success. Rather than slides, the presenters used this website during their presentation. This website has all of the syllabus links included so that you can participate in the activities discussed in the workshop.
