The SMC Virtual Computer Lab is a service that lets SMC students in certain classes
access real SMC specialized computer labs over the Internet. You must be enrolled
in an appropriate class for the current semester in progress. You cannot log on before
the semester starts or after it ends.
Technical Support
Technical support is available from the Student Information Technology Helpline (studentITHELP).
Use the lab "desktop" or "app" that your instructor tells you to.
If you don't see what you need, click on the Settings icon (it looks like a wheel
or gear) and select "Refresh Apps".
Special Instructions for Modern Language Classes
SANSSpace (used in previous years) has been replaced with a Modern Language Laboratory
login that starts a timer and leads to a menu of language learning software. The menu
is controlled by a computer program called ASuite.
You can save your files on your personal Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive.
In Microsoft Windows, click on Windows Start .
Click on your Username icon and select "sign out".
If you are not actively using the virtual desktop for more than 10 minutes, then you
will be logged off. Please save your files to your personal drives frequently.
Which "desktop" is for what class subject?
You only have access to the "desktops" or "apps" appropriate for your class. If you
have more than one class that uses the Virtual Computer Lab, here are the names of
the desktops available:
Computer Sciences and Information Systems classes. This is a remote connection to
a "physical" computer on an SMC campus.
Computer Sciences and Information Systems classes. This is a "virtual" computer.
Earth Sciences classes.
Geographic Information Systems classes.
