From 8 - 8:25 a.m., coffee and tea was served in the John Adams Middle School Courtyard.
Graciously sponsored by SMC's Emeritus program!
Lunch was from 12 - 1:15 p.m. on the Quad and was from our caterer Greenleaf.
The theme for Fall Professional Development Day was Strengthening Student Success: Reexamining the SMC Experience.
The purpose of the theme Strengthening Student Success: Reexamining the SMC Experience is to focus on improving the student experience at SMC so that we can improve student
retention. When it comes to retention, there are so many different ways that the college
is trying to support students, but there is often poor communication across campus.
Many people are not aware of what is happening and how we can all contribute to improving
retention. At Fall PD Day, we will be learning about issues related to retention from
a variety of angles. We hope participants will leave PD Day with actionable steps
on how to support students in all of our capacities, which will help close our racial
equity gaps and improve the student experience.
Although we provided as many HyFlex options as possible to maximize accessibility,
we also wanted to encourage everyone to come to campus! We can all build better connections when we share common space together and spend
time together. To promote on-campus attendance, we offered extra time to connect with
colleagues at our Coffee in the Courtyard event, and a 75-minute lunch for time to re-connect with colleagues or meet new colleagues.
And an extra bonus for attending on campus - we will have a raffle next week that
you can only enter by attending a workshop on campus!
Six opportunity drawing prizes for attending workshops on campus: Two $50 Target gift
cards, two $50 Trader Joe’s gift cards and two gift cards for 30 minute massages at
The Massage Place on Ocean Park.
