Accounting

The mission of the Santa Monica College Accounting Department is to provide support and guidance relative to all financial needs and obligations of students, faculty, staff and external entities, while assuring accounting integrity and compliance with Board and regulatory policies and applicable accounting standards.

The Accounting Department is responsible for timely and accurate financial information and services- ensuring that all resources of SMC are managed and accounted for in an effective manner. This includes the accumulation and distribution of district-wide financial information for both internal and external use.  

Our accountants detect and correct errors, work directly with program managers, department chairs and administrators to prepare expenditure reports for internal management purposes, and to meet external funding agency requirements.  

​All accountants are required to close the books at year-end for the preparation of the District’s annual consolidated financial statements, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.  

The Accounting Department under Fiscal Services provides an array of fiscal support services along with other units like Budget and Reconciliation, Accounts Payable, Payroll and Purchasing.
