Interim, Superintendent/President
Jeff Shimizu has spent more than 20 years at SMC as a faculty member, department chair, dean of counseling, athletic director, international student recruiter, and instructional dean. Previous experience included five years in the Los Angeles Unified School District as a college counselor.
Shimizu was appointed Interim Superintendent/President in March 2015.
Previously, Shimizu served as Executive Vice President and Vice President of Academic Affairs. When he was Vice President of Academic Affairs, Shimizu has direct responsibility for providing leadership and administrative oversight to the college's instructional programs, including curriculum, 21 academic departments, off-campus sites, learning resources, distance education, continuing education, and health sciences. In addition, he has participated in instructional calendar presentations, collective bargaining, accreditation and, in 2006, the SMC operation of the summer instruction program at Compton College.
Shimizu received his bachelor's degree in health science/physical education from California State University in Los Angeles and his master's in counseling from Loyola Marymount University.
